A little bit about myself. My name is Jackie Glass. I was born in Suffolk and had a very rural childhood before moving to Hampstead, London to train as a Registered General Nurse. Since then I have mainly lived in Worcestershire and Warwickshire, and now live in the foothills of the Quantocks in Somerset. I am married and have four children who are grown up and starting to find their way in the world.
My nursing career led me into social support work where I used arts and crafts as a therapeutic tool for my clients, and this is how I discovered mosaics. It is an absorbing yet relaxing and highly addictive craft. I love the tactile nature of making mosaics, the warm and sticky feel of cement and grout is reminiscent of childhood play making sand castles and mud pies (and hiding them under the rhubarb as my mum disapproved of mess). Then the smooth and cool feel of the finished piece, with the reflective qualities that glass brings producing an almost mystical dimension to my work. I'm often asked if 'Glass' is really my surname, and 'yes' it really is. How lucky am I to share my name with such a wonderful medium.
Over the past few years my passion for mosaics has grown, running many workshops and courses, and assisting on large scale community and school projects. I am now lucky to have my own home studio where I work full-time with my mosaics. I love nature and am an avid bird watcher, but am also inspired by ancient myths and legends, folk lore, fairy stories and childhood literature.
I am very happy to reproduce any of the items you see on this website, however, I particularly enjoy working on bespoke orders. If you would like something individual, please contact me to discuss - I can be contacted by phone, email or facebook. If you are not sure exactly what you want, I am also happy to work with you on an interactive basis to help you discover an original artwork.
